Xander crossed his arms. “I amnotchasing a tennis

ball.”

~~

Xander tore after the tennis ball as it flew over his head. Wyatt was nipping at Dakota’s back legs, and then running away. He’d come back and bite his tail and Sam swore the little shit was giggling. Dakota lay down on his back and Wyatt pounced on him like a puppy, biting his ears and making little growl noises. It was the cutest thing Sam had ever witnessed. Dakota took it in stride, nipping at Wyatt’s backside now and then, and holding him down with one paw as he nudged Wyatt’s belly with his muzzle.

The brothers that had complained they were too good to chase a tennis ball, were now fighting over it. Sam took his surprise out of his jacket and put the battery in. He threw the babble ball and it immediately started talking. Wyatt’s ears perked up first and he chased it down, rolling himself over it. The ball was talking and the voice sounded like it’d inhaled helium. Wyatt figured out pretty quickly that the more you hit it, the more it talked. He chased it around, batting at it with his paw. Sam gasped as Wyatt rolled over it yet again, shifting back to his human form in mid-role. Wyatt giggled, shaking the ball in his hands and making it talk more. Sawyer, Grayson, Xander and Dakota were all staring at it, heads tilted to one side.

“It talks funny, Sam.” Wyatt giggled, shaking the ball again.

“Boo!” Dakota was right in Wyatt’s ear, back in his human form. Wyatt shifted back to wolf form in seconds and looked up, eyes wide, at Dakota. He yelped and ran around his brother, hiding. Grayson sat down on him and Sawyer made that wolf smiley face again. Sawyer walked around his brother and nipped his tail, warning him to get off Wyatt. The two of them started nipping at each other, then the rolling around started. Dakota shifted back and ran into the wolf pile, jumping on Xander’s back and playfully nipping his ear.

Sam laughed, picked up Wyatt and got a nice long lick up his face. He put him in his lap with the babble ball and looked at the other four. They’d been so wrapped up it in their play; they hadn’t even noticed that Wyatt had changed in mere seconds rather than minutes. Dakota’s presence was having an effect on the pack.

“ Go run; you guys have way too much pent up energy. I’ll watch Wyatt.” Wyatt wiggled as his brothers took off with Dakota and Sam held him closer, whispering in his ear. “I have cookies.”

Wyatt shifted back, looking at Sam. “Peanut butter?”

“And chocolate chip.” Sam winked and took him inside.
